Kobi’s Bio

Presently, Kobi is the board president. He has been involved with the organization for the last eight years.

Kobi was born in Haifa, Israel, where he lived until age 12. His family moved to Rehovot, where they lived until 1975. During his teen years, he was highly involved in the Israeli Scouts Youth Movement with teaching, training, and motivating children and teens.

Like all Israelis, he enlisted in the army at age 18, and served seven years in the Israeli Air Force. In 1982 he completed full-time army service with a rank of major. While continuing to play an extremely active role in the Army Reserves, Kobi moved to Tel-Aviv and entered Tel Aviv University to study geography and political science. After three years he refocused at the College of Architecture & Design in Tel Aviv. After graduating as an architect and interior designer, he founded a small architectural firm with a colleague, specializing in custom-designed homes, restaurants, and offices. During this time he also designed, opened, and managed a restaurant, Samobar Café.

In 2003, the family (wife Sharon and two boys, Ben and Tom) moved to Colorado Springs. In 2004 Professor David Weddle asked him to take the position as Hebrew instructor at Colorado College, In 2008 he became part of the chaplain’s office as the Coordinator of Jewish Life On Campus and the Director of Hillel.

Outside of his college responsibilities, he is also a teacher at the Hebrew and Religious school at Temple Shalom and a faculty member of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the FMAMS (Florence Melton Adult Mini-School), a program designed for extensive adult classes. He teaches these courses: Rhythm, Purposes, Drama (History), and Ethics in Jewish Living, as well as these grad courses: Israeli Literature as a window to the Israeli society, and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, Jewish Denominations, The Anti-Semitism Equation, and others.

Kobi and Sharon established their own company, Effective Communications, LLC. They are committed to improving communication among people all around the globe. Their areas of expertise range from language instruction, translation, interpretation, to Cross Cultural Training Programs and all topics related to Israel.

Since January 2008 he has served on the board of the Colorado Springs Charter Academy, a K-8 Charter School, and board president in the last five years.
