Barbara’s Bio
Barbara was born and raised in Colorado Springs. She graduated from Wasson High School, and then obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Business from the University of Northern Colorado. She spent a portion of her junior year studying near Florence, Italy.
Barbara’s business career began as a commercial lines underwriter for USF&G Insurance Company. After 3-yrs, she joined her father in the insurance business as a manager and co-owner of Don Bates Insurance for 29-yrs. During her tenure at the insurance agency, she earned many national trips and awards for excellence.
In 2001, Barbara was the winner of the Colorado Springs Business Journal’s top 25 Dynamic Women. 2001 was the first year the award was given. Since the insurance agency was sold in 2014, Barbara has been managing and coordinating the billing operations for her sister’s medical practice.
Presently, Barbara volunteers with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Alumni Association, Colorado Springs Executives Association, Tuesday Luncheon Club, and she serves as the treasurer of the Greenberg Center for Learning and Tolerance.
Her interests include travel (she is a licensed pilot), gardening, investments, history, and interior design.
